Eeyore Jumpsuit Cosplay Tutorial

Hiya, SpaceKitty here!!!

Eeyore was a childhood favorite of mine. So, when I needed something simple and easy for this past Halloween, of course, I had to make him!!!

This cosplay should be fairly easy if you have a basic understanding of sewing, though I did find the pattern I used a bit confusing.

Basic supplies needed:

  • Sewing machine or a sewing needle

  • Sewing chalk

  • Scissors

  • Sewing pins

  • Measuring tape

  • A ruler or yardstick

Overalls

  • Dark gray fabric ( I used a 4 yd pre-cut piece of polycotton from Walmart, and there did end up being about a yard left over. That being said, I suggest using fabric more similar to what the pattern suggests.)
  • Light gray fabric (I am not sure exactly what fabric I used, it was a scrape that I already had on hand.)
  • Gray and white thread
  • Either black embroidery floss or thin black yarn (or something along those lines)
  • Zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (serger if you have one)
  • Magenta fabric (A quilter's square is probably enough, you just need enough for the bow on the tail)
  • Buttons: One black button and two other buttons for the top of the overall (I used light gray ones but I don't know if I love how it looks)
  • Oliver jumpsuit from Mood, link here (https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/the-oliver-jumpsuit-free-sewing-pattern/) (you can use any overall pattern you want, I chose this one because it was free and because it has that baggy old stuffed animal feel to it)

For the most part, you will just need to follow the pattern instructions for the construction of the overalls. Most changes were made to the completed garment. *NOTE* Because I was not using a stretch fabric, I left one strap unattached from the front so I could get into the outfit. I just safety pin it close when I wear it.

Once you have finished the overalls, take your light gray fabric and cut an oval, about 10in by 12 1/2in. Cut two. Sew the ovals together, right sides together. Be sure to leave a gap to turn the oval right sides out.

Turn the oval right sides out and iron the edges. Sew the oval to the overalls with a 1/4in seam. (You might want to put the overalls on to find the perfect placement for the oval.) Take a black thread and hand stitch some fake stitches over the sewn seam as well as add some over the edge of the oval in X and / patterns.

I cut a rectangle about 3in wide and 8-10in long for the tail. I folded it in half, sewing it into a tube. Take a small piece of paper 2-3in long and begin wrapping black thread around it. Remove the thread once it reaches the desired thickness. This next part is a bit difficult to explain so please bear with me.

Take the looped thread and place it into the tube, in between the right sides of the fabric. The majority of the thread should be inside of the tube with only a bit sticking out of the tube end. Make sure to do a couple passes with the sewing machine to really secure it. I attempted to make an illustration for this process.

Turn the tube's right sides out and cut the loops to make the tail hairs. Fold the top of the tube in, to make a neat edge, and secure. Sew or glue to the back of the overalls, adding a black button to look like it is being held in place.

I don’t really have any instructions for the bow that goes on the tail. Taking some magenta fabric, I made a simple bow. Because I was lazy, I just glued the bow together with hot glue instead of sewing it.

Here is how my finished overalls turned out.

Ears

(I don’t love these ears, but I was working with what I had on hand, so here is what I came up with.)

  • Same dark gray fabric as the overalls
  • Light pink fabric
  • 2 alligator hair clips
  • Stiff iron-on interfacing
  • Hot glue

Because I was running out of time, the ear I made are somewhat simple. First, draw a shape similar to the one below.

My measurements are about 13in long and about 4in at the widest point (unfortunately I don’t have the exact measurements). Make sure you have a seam allowance. Cut two from your gray and pink fabric each. Take iron-able interfacing (I used some really stiff stuff) ana iron it into the wrong side of your gray fabric. Sew the pink and gray sides together, right sides together. Leave the small end open. Turn right side out and iron flat. Using a little hot glue, glue the small end at a bit of an angle like below. Keep in mind you need a left and right ear so pay attention to the direction of the angles.

There should be a little excess fabric hanging out from the edge you just glue, cut it off leavening a straight edge for the alligator clip. Glue the clip to the end of the ear.

Shoes

I wore a pair of black combat boots that I already owned. They kind of remind me of donkey hoofs.

Wig

The wig is the same one I use for my Totoro cosplay. It is from Amazon. If you're concerned like I was about purchasing a wig from Amazon, I personally think it is amazing and so cute, and would highly recommend it. It is a bit on the thin side, but the waves help hide the thinnest. Link here.

Shirt

I got a thin gray, long sleeve sweater from a local thrift store.

And you're done!!! Hopefully, this tutorial was helpful. If you have any questions or need help, please comment and I will try my hardest to help!!!

Thank you so much for reading, and happy cosplaying!!!
